WHAT IS ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING?
It is sometimes referred to as ‘architectural lighting’ when it comes to lighting the exterior of buildings or other structures or bridges. Then one is talking purely about ‘illumination of architecture’, which is an overly narrow definition of what architectural lighting really is.
Architectural lighting can be seen as the type of lighting that arises for and from architecture. In a sense, architectural and decorative lighting are the opposite of each other. We can mainly deduce this contradiction from the way of thinking that precedes the drawing up of a lighting plan.
While the term architectural lighting seems finite, it can apply to all the types of lighting fixture that is used in an architectural project, such as a building. It is easier to say what architectural lighting is not: throwing light into a space just to create illumination.
