WARM WHITE LIGHT: WHAT IS IT AND WHERE DO YOU USE IT?

When you want to renovate or make your home more sustainable or make a switch to LED lighting, it is important to learn more about the possibilities of LED lighting. When people come to us, they often say they are looking for ‘beautiful dimmable light’. When we ask further, most of the time they want something else, namely dimmable light where the light turn into warm white light during dimming. This association naturally comes from the days of the traditional bulb: when this was dimmed the light became warm. LED, however, works differently. When LED is dimmed, the intensity of the light is reduced, but the colour of the light remains the same. Unless you choose smart LED light sources like those from DYDELL. Which, in addition to dimming, allow you to switch the colour of the light from cool white to warm white light. Warm white light is one of the most requested specifications within lighting. But what is warm white light and what does such a term actually mean? For which rooms is warm white light suitable and which products do we recommend to buy when you choose warm white light? In this blog we explain everything about warm white light.

WHAT IS WARM WHITE LIGHT?

Lighting has a certain colour temperature. This temperature is measured in Kelvin and says something about the warmth and the colour of the light. The lower the light temperature is, the warmer the light will be. Most light manufacturers consider that “warm white light” has a colour temperature of 3000 Kelvin. At DYDELL, we are very active in environments where ambience plays an important role, such as theatres, hospitality venues, residential homes and retail stores. In these environments we notice that 3000 Kelvin is still the cool. All our smart light products therefore have as a basis a high quality of 2700 Kelvin warm white light integrated.

Warm white light is popular because it is similar to the light from products such as a traditional light bulb lamp (slightly warmer – or extra warm white light, 2700 Kelvin) or a halogen lamp (3000 Kelvin). These traditional light bulbs and halogen bulbs were previously widely used in households. Now that we are switching to LED lighting, people are looking for something similar. With warm white LED lighting, you’re on the right track! In addition to providing lighting that gives warm white light and can be perfectly and stepless dimmed, DYDELL’s smart LED lighting goes much further. How do we do that? You can read about it below.

LIGHT SOURCES WITH WARM WHITE LIGHT FROM DYDELL

At DYDELL, we go one step further when it comes to providing lighting that gives off warm white light. At DYDELL, we add coloured light to the white light. We call these light sources RGB+W light sources. Another version is switching between cool white light (4000 Kelvin) and candle warm white light (2000 Kelvin). We call this version Dual white, but in the market, they also call this option Tunable white or Warm dimming. DYDELL knows how to properly and intelligently control the light sources so that, for example, group pre-sets can be saved or timers can be set.

In addition, much more is possible with the LED lighting from the DYDELL collection than with the traditional light sources as mentioned above. Are you looking for warm white light and do you want to know more about all the advantages that DYDELL can offer you? Then please read further.

THE BENEFITS OF WARM WHITE LIGHT

Warm white light is often used in environments where atmosphere matters, such as in restaurants, hotels, theatres but of course also in residences. The advantage of DYDELL’s Single white LED lighting is that it allows you to create warm white light that is also perfectly stepless dimmable. In addition, DYDELL also offers Dual White LED lighting, which can be chosen from both functional and atmospheric warm white light. This gives a multifunctional character to the room and, at the right moments, brings a warm atmosphere and creates tranquillity through the warm white light. If you choose for DYDELL’s LED lighting, you will be amazed at all the possibilities this lighting has to offer. In addition to the usual warm white light, other light temperatures can be easily adjusted. This allows you to adjust the perfect light temperature depending on the time of day or changing function of the room

WHERE DO YOU USE WARM WHITE LIGHT

As mentioned earlier, warm white light is perhaps the most commonly used qualification to express light temperature. Warm white light is similar to the atmosphere from a halogen or traditional light bulb, making it well suited to kitchens, dining table lighting, sitting areas, TV rooms, restrooms, entryways, and hallways. If you are looking for warm white light, among other things, but would like to explore which LED lighting with which light temperature suits you, then DYDELL’s changeable LED lighting is an absolute must.

DYDELL has different types of LED lighting that you can be used to create warm white light and can be perfectly dimmed.  But DYDELL also offers light products which can be switched between cool white and warm white light tones. But also light products where coloured light is added to the warm white light.

DIM TO WARM: DIMMING WARM WHITE LIGHT BY LIGHT COLOUR

When you choosing for the dim to warm LED lamps from DYDELL, it is good to know that you can dim or brighten the light and adjust the color of the light directly.

A commonly used control method to control spot with dim t warm is DALI. Our changeable lighting such as the Poweline, Glareless & Led sphere can also be controlled with other control systems such as Casambi, DMX, KNX and Loxone. Do you want to know what the best operating system is for your situation? Then contact us!

DIM TO WARM: DIMMING WARM WHITE LIGHT BY LIGHT COLOUR

When you are looking for lighting that can be dimmed by light intensity and light colour, or warm dimming, you are looking for dim to warm lighting. When the lamp is fully lit, it emits a relatively cool white light. As soon as this led lighting is dimmed, the intensity becomes lower and the colour of the light becomes warmer. At DYDELL, the LED lights have a maximum cool light temperature of 5000 to 4000 Kelvin, which can then be adjusted with all the intermediate steps such as 2700 Kelvin to the warm white light setting of 2000 Kelvin. These different light temperatures allow for many uses in rooms. Think about dining table lighting. This is not only where people eat under extra warm white light with atmosphere, but also where they work with a functional, higher light temperature.

BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLES OF WARM WHITE LIGHT

One example of such dining table lighting is the DYDELL SMART LED sphere. This extremely special lighting consists of two halve spheres which can be adjusted separately. The LED sphere is also available in one half or both halves with Dual white which is also called Tunable white. In this situation the half of the sphere or both halves can be switched from cool white light to warm white light. Besides dual white light it is also possible to provide one or both halves with RGB+W light, which means that in addition to warm white light 2700 Kelvin also coloured light can be added to create a beautiful atmosphere. By adjusting the two half-spheres separately from each other, the room can be illuminated directly and indirectly so that the possibilities are endless. There are also countless effects that can be created.

Think of warm white light above the table and extra warm white light towards the ceiling. Warm white light is also very common when it comes to recessed spotlights.

The Glareless pin spot from DYDELL is a fine example of this. These very high-quality spots are designed so that when you look into the room you will not be blinded. These Glareless pin spots give an extra luxurious look in combination with other lighting such as the mentioned SMART LED sphere. By combining the LED sphere, the Powerlines and Glareless pin spot with each other, a perfect and balanced atmosphere can be created for your restaurant, office, living room or kitchen, where different types of warm light are also appropriate.

HUMAN CENTRIC LIGHTING: THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT ON HUMANS

Human Centric lighting also known as biodynamic lighting is a way of lighting that follows the rhythm of daylight. Independent researchers have shown that sufficient and proper light can have a positive influence on the well-being and biological rhythm of the elderly. Human Centric Lighting or biodynamic light is therefore often used in offices and in care facilities for the elderly. With DYDELL’s Dual White light sources such as the Glareless pin spot, the Smart Led sphere or the various LED lines, different types of warm white light can be created to follow the rhythm of daylight, which independent research has shown to have a positive effect on our mood and productivity. How exactly this rhythm should run, is prescribed to us by the independent institutes. The powerful light sources from DYDELL follow this rhythm, which is why they are used successfully in offices and care homes for the elderly.

In addition to follow the rhythm of the day, the right light temperature can also affect our concentration and focus. Also, for example, warmer light can cause your sleep to be improved. For example, bright and blue light (high light temperature) can provide focus and is therefore lighting that is recommended in education or at a workplace. For home, we recommend a warm white light or an extra warm white light, especially in the evening. Your body can then prepare itself for a good night’s sleep. Light that mimics the natural course of lighting is also called biodynamic lighting.

CONTROLLING WARM WHITE LIGHT REMOTELY

Warm white light can of course be adjusted by  ordinary dimmer, but the conveniences of a control system should certainly not go unmentioned either. DYDELL’s various types of lighting can be controlled in different ways. This means that you can use the Casambi app on your phone to control the lighting. Have you had a long and tiring day? Simply switch on the extra warm white light from your couch and you are ready for a wonderfully relaxing evening.
