Scaleless

The work touches upon themes like: light (and its interaction with the physical world), immateriality, reflection, illusion, repetition and ‘scalelessness’. The project builds from a series of studies on the structure of ice crystals (the morphology of a snow flake, fractals) as well as exploration of the material properties such as: reflection, transparency and fragility.

The research process was followed by a period of parametric modeling and digital fabrication. The final structure is built with 512 triangle faces, each having its unique position and number. The individual faces were laser-cut and assembled with nylon wire. This labour-intensive process resulted in an installation with two symmetric volumes built with two ʻcontrastingʼ materials: transparent perspex and mirror board.

The volumes seem to levitate in the space creating the notion of ‘scalelessness’ playing with the changing light of the environment.
